Netflix may become a platform for the film adaptation of the cult game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The current owner of GSC Game World studio, Ukrainian entrepreneur Maksym Krippa, shared his plans for the future of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 franchise in an interview with Forbes.
Creating a series based on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is being discussed, and negotiations with Netflix are underway. However, as the businessman emphasizes, there are no final agreements yet. ‘I would like to see a series based on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. appear on Netflix,’ said Maksym Krippa, drawing a parallel with The Witcher series, which became the pride of Poland after the film adaptation of the game of the same name.
The release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 became an event in the gaming world, taking place on 20 November 2024 after a 15-year break and numerous postponements. Significant challenges, including the problematic conditions of martial law in Ukraine, accompanied the project’s development. The game has become a symbol of the steadfastness and talent of Ukrainian developers, who have released a high-quality product despite blackouts and shelling.
Over a million copies of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 were sold in the first day after launch, and the game’s Twitch broadcasts reached 20 million hours of viewing. This underlines the great interest of the gamer community around the world.
Crippa also confirmed that several DLCs and multiplayer will be released for the game, contributing to its further development. The company plans to expand the platform by releasing the project on new gaming devices. Already, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is showing profitability, and future sales may exceed expectations. Krippa does not disclose the exact financial investments, emphasising that the main focus was on product quality rather than marketing campaigns.
Yevhen and Maria Hryhorovych played a key role in creating the game and managing all stages of production. Despite the difficulties, the studio’s staff increased from 65 to 470 people, which was a key success factor.
‘S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is not just a game, it is a symbol of resilience and faith in our strength even in the most difficult circumstances,’ summed up Maksym Krippa. The series can help popularise Ukrainian culture globally and bring new opportunities for developing national media content.
